Supporting the ideas and efforts of the people in the Columbia Basin
More people in the Columbia Basin will have better access to nutritious food and healthy meals as ten food recovery projects move forward to reduce food waste and help families meet their basic needs. These projects are receiving over $440,000 from Columbia Basin Trust.
Renewable energy upgrades in 16 community buildings will generate energy, increase energy efficiency and sustainability, and reduce energy costs. These projects are being realized with over $650,000 in support from Columbia Basin Trust’s Energy Sustainability Grants.
Access to state-of-the-art technology can spark opportunities to learn, connect and bring creative ideas to life. Nine communities in the Columbia Basin will soon have new digital equipment, software and other technologies that people can use for free to enhance their digital literacy and get creative. These purchases are being made with support of over $613,000 from Columbia Basin Trust’s Community Technology Program.
The Board of Directors of the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) today approved the purchase of 21.6 hectares (ha) of private land around Cottonwood Lake that had been slated for logging by the private landowner. The purchase price is $450,000 for the purchase of timber on the property, plus closing costs, and the issuance of a tax receipt for the value of the land (without timber).
Trails connect our communities, take us to spectacular locations and provide fresh-air opportunities to get moving. Around the Columbia Basin, 29 projects will be adding to or improving the region’s trails, with over $484,000 in support from Columbia Basin Trust’s Trail Enhancement Grants.
A new $6-million partnership between Columbia Basin Trust, College of the Rockies and Selkirk College will work toward shared priorities to enhance the quality, availability and uniqueness of the college experience for students.
