Active Transportation Grants
This program helps communities expand options for walking, cycling, wheeling and other non-motorized travel by planning and building multi-use pathways within and between Basin communities. These efforts reduce pollution and support healthier, more connected and more accessible communities by creating safe routes for people of all ages and abilities.

Who can Apply
Eligible applicants include local governments and First Nations communities in the Columbia Basin Trust region. Societies and non-profits are not eligible to apply under this program.
How to Apply
The Trust provides funding to support eligible organizations with both project development and construction of new multi-use, active transportation pathways within or between Basin communities. To apply:
- Download and review the Program Guide and Expression of Interest Worksheet.
- Complete your Expression of Interest online.
Application Deadline
Applications are accepted on a continuous basis until available funds have been committed.
Recent Projects
The Trust has supported a variety of active transportation projects across the Basin, including:
- South Slocan and Crescent Valley Connector Tunnel and Pathway
- Westside Legacy Trail connecting Invermere and Fairmont Hot Springs
- Canal Flats Shore to Shore Pathway
- Jaffray Frontage Trail connecting Jaffray to the West Jaffray Forest
- Centennial Trail connecting Rossland to outlying recreational assets
- Amenity upgrades, including bike repair stations and interpretive signage, on the Slocan Valley Rail Trail and North Star Rails to Trails.
Other Funding Opportunities
- Active Transportation Planning Program provides grants to support active transportation components of formal planning documents.
- B.C. Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant provides planning and infrastructure grants for First Nations and local government, including municipalities and regional districts.
- Active Transportation Fund supports capital Active Transportation projects led by First Nations, local government, and non-profits.
