Summary of Legislation Governing Water Resource Management in the Columbia Basin

List of legislation affecting the regulation of water resources in the Columbia Basin, as of June 2004.

“There are many pieces of legislation that impact upon the regulation of the Columbia Basin’s water resources. This list summarizes much of that legislation. This should not be considered a comprehensive list as most issues, proposals, developments, etc. are unique in their own right and therefore will be governed by their own unique blend of legislation. In addition, because legislation is subject to interpretation, no single list of legislation could possibly cover the many possible combinations of legislation that could apply in any given circumstance. It should also be noted that this summary was prepared in June 2004. More than 80% of the information contained within was derived from the Canadian Water and Wastewater Association’s Canadian Legislation and Substance/Quality Database, which had not been updated since June of 2002 and is currently under development.” Abstract taken from document.
