Columbia River Treaty Lecture #8

This eighth lecture in the 1974 series at Simon Fraser University features Jim Wilson, who was Executive Director of BC Hydro, as well as author of the book People in the Way. He discusses relocation of people in the Arrow Lakes region. Also includes a question-and-answer period with the audience. “To go back to what your Chairman said, I don’t intend to say anything about the Columbia River, or the Columbia River Treaty. It’s not that I don’t know anything about them, but I was not in fact involved in the Treaty which was concluded by the time I got on the scene. And it would be presumptuous for me to do so because, in fact, the Columbia River Treaty is an immensely complex thing, as is the operation in fact of the Treaty. Instead, I would like to talk about one of the consequences of the Columbia River projects, namely the displacement of a large number of people, and what BC Hydro and Power Authority did about these in pursuing the Columbia River Treaty.” (Taken from transcript) These lectures have been transcribed from the original recordings: there may be some errors or omissions in the transcriptions.
Tapes of the lectures are available at the Simon Fraser University Archives, http://www.sfu.ca/archives. Transcription provided by BC Hydro.
