The Sparwood Food Bank is excited to announce it is relocation to a new facility at 114 Centennial Street in Sparwood. This move marks a significant milestone in their mission to combat food insecurity and better serve the community.
“Our new home has provided us with the space and resources necessary to continue our operations and serve the community more effectively,” said Tracey Brook-Baker, Treasurer at Sparwood Food Bank. “The support we have received from Columbia Basin Trust (the Trust), Elk Valley Resources (EVR), and so many other community members is a testament to the strength and generosity of our town.”
Brook-Baker expressed gratitude for the generous contributions from the Trust ($180,000) and Elk Valley Resources ($100,000) and for the support from many other community groups and businesses that were instrumental in securing the new facility, enhancing services and providing support during the transition to the new location.
“There is a bright future ahead for the Sparwood Food Bank. This new building isn’t just four walls, it’s a testament to community dedication and generosity. The increased space will create more efficient storage and distribution of essentials to the community,” said Will Nixon, Director, Delivery of Benefits & Special Initiatives, Columbia Basin Trust. “Thanks to the unwavering support of Sparwood’s residents and businesses, and congratulations to the Sparwood Food Bank on this move. Together, we’re making a difference, one meal at a time.”
The Sparwood Food Bank operates 364 days a year, providing essential food support to families and individuals. In addition to its core services, the Sparwood Food Share program extends aid to seniors, local churches, and schools, ensuring that food reaches those in need throughout the community.
Sparwood Food Bank operations are made possible through the dedication of the staff and the invaluable contributions of volunteers, who collectively contribute about 80 volunteer hours each month, providing essential food support to approximately 50 families and 150 individuals monthly.
