Aron Burke joins Columbia Basin Trust as a Community Liaison
Aron Burke, a new yet familiar face in the West Kootenay, has joined Columbia Basin Trust as a Community Liaison. With a passion for listening to people and finding innovative solutions to challenges in his home region, Burke is well positioned for his new role.
“I was born and raised in the Kootenays. In my previous role, I was involved in community relations, community investment and community giving, but always admired the impact, scope and scale of the Trust’s work,” says Burke. “I’m looking forward to having direct engagement and impact on community projects as Community Liaison in the Southwest Basin.”
Burke brings a strong community engagement background, having spent 18 years at Kootenay Savings Credit Union, primarily as a community liaison. During his tenure, he established a robust network of relationships with organizations and individuals leading community-minded initiatives.
“Aron is known for his ability to act as a connector and facilitator; these skills will serve him well in his new role,” says Katie Kendall, Senior Manager, Delivery of Benefits at Columbia Basin Trust. “His friendly demeanor, compassionate approach and dedication are key attributes that have defined his years of experience in community engagement.”
Based out of the Castlegar office, Burke joins Patrick Checknita and Angie Elsmore in serving the West Kootenay region. Together they will focus on engaging with communities, particularly rural areas that may lack the resources for their projects. Burke is enthusiastic about meeting people and facilitating dialogue to identify and implement projects that benefit rural areas and beyond.
“Whether it’s helping with project planning or connecting communities with the right support through the Trust, I see this job as crucial and am honoured to do this work,” Burke says.
Born in Trail, raised in Fruitvale, and now living in Montrose with his wife and two children, Burke brings a local perspective and an appetite for understanding the diverse needs, opportunities and challenges of all Southwest Kootenay communities.
“As a local resident and parent, I naturally have a vested interest in community matters,” he says. “Living and raising a family here allows me to see needs firsthand, and when I see projects come to life, I can appreciate how they benefit the community.”
Communities are encouraged to reach out to the Trust’s Community Liaisons to discuss their needs and ideas.
