From seeing heritage buildings in Rossland and Kaslo get a facelift, Ymir sparkle through community engagement and Johnsons Landing strengthen its assets, Kelvin Saldern has witnessed many successful projects blossom in the southwestern Columbia Basin—and been there to support them through his role as the Trust’s Manager, Community Relationships West. As he moves into retirement, Kel reflects on the role he has taken to heart for 8.5 years.
“I have a lot to be grateful for,” he says. “I’ve had the opportunity to have meaningful work that has really contributed in a positive way to individuals, organizations, communities and the region. I’ve developed a lot of really positive, constructive, effective working relationships with a wide variety of people across communities. I’ve had so much joy working on the kinds of projects that I’ve been involved in.”
One of his goals with the Trust was to help communities thrive, which he undeniably has. He particularly likes seeing progress with tangible results. “It’s a nice feeling for me, because when I drive by these locations I say, ‘Yeah, I worked on that.’”
“Kel has epitomized approachability, with his colleagues and with Basin organizations; he is someone who gets to know people, their stories and passions,” said Will Nixon, Senior Manager, Delivery of Benefits, Columbia Basin Trust. “He has been a wonderful team member and we thank him for all his contributions in supporting the communities and rural areas in the Southwest Basin.”
The Trust will announce Kel’s successor soon. In the meantime, residents and communities can contact Will Nixon at wnixon@ourtrust.org or call 1.800.505.8998.
