Economic development is a high priority across the Basin. It’s one of our 13 strategic priorities.
Residents told us they want to see the Trust take a leadership role in economic development, and we have created a plan to strengthen our position as a leader, catalyst and investor.
It’s a fresh look at our approach to economic development, and the Trust has allocated $20 million over three years to advance economic growth, job creation and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Enhancing employment opportunities and supporting the business community are at the core of our work in economic development.
For example, the Trust is:
- exploring developing market rental housing and currently seeking potential partners and development companies through a Request for Qualifications
- investigating regional shipping logistics to see if there is a potential role to mitigate barriers to business growth and investment
- supporting the new Cranbrook/Kimberley economic initiative and the MIDAS lab in Trail.
