Cultural and Prescribed Fire Program
The Cultural and Prescribed Fire Program supports projects that apply cultural and prescribed fire practices to improve ecological health, reduce wildfire risk, and build community and organizational capacity.
Cultural and prescribed fire are recognized land stewardship tools that can help improve ecosystems, reduce wildfire risk and support Indigenous cultural practices.
By investing in these efforts, the program advances the Trust’s priorities of fostering a healthy, resilient natural environment and improving community safety amid changing climate conditions.
Who can Apply
Eligible applicants include local governments, First Nations and non-profits in the region with demonstrated experience in cultural and prescribed fire.
How to Apply?
The Cultural and Prescribed Fire Program uses a two-stage application process designed to support strong project development:
Stage One: Expression of Interest (EOI)
Applicants submit an Expression of Interest outlining their project and organizational readiness.
Stage Two: Full Application (by invitation)
Applicants selected to proceed will be notified. With guidance from Trust staff and Program Advisors, applicants will develop and submit a full application by the final deadline.
1. Reach out the Trust to discuss your project idea and be connected to a Program Advisor.
2. Download and review the Program Guide and EOI Worksheet.
3. Complete your Expression of Interest.
Deadline to Apply
Expressions of Interest are accepted on a continuous basis until October 1, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. PT / 3:00 p.m. MT. If invited to move forward, you will be notified within four weeks of submitting your EOI.
The final deadline to submit a project application is December 10, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. PT / 3:00 p.m. MT.
