Energy Retrofit and Recharge Program
If you are a non-profit housing provider in the Basin, this program can help fund energy retrofits and solar projects. Delivered in partnership with BC Non-Profit Housing Association and BC Housing, the Energy Retrofit and Recharge Program supports Basin non-profit housing providers to improve the energy efficiency, sustainability and climate resilience of affordable rental housing.
This program aligns with the Trust’s focus on healthy and resilient communities by supporting efforts to maintain and strengthen affordable housing stock.
There are two funding streams:
Stream One: Energy Retrofit
Supports upgrades to buildings that are at least 10 years old that improve energy efficiency and/or reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including:
- boilers more than 15 years old;
- heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems;
- hot water heaters;
- high-efficiency furnaces;
- heat pumps (mini-split, ductless, ducted or window-mounted);
- lighting;
- building envelope upgrades; and roof insulation.
Stream Two: Recharge
Supports the installation of solar photovoltaic systems for buildings (or parts of buildings) where the organization pays the utility bill, including:
- rooftop or ground-mount solar systems;
- engineering studies to assess solar feasibility;
- security fencing for ground-mounted solar;
- electrical panel upgrades related to solar installation; and battery storage systems.
Who can apply?
Non-profit and Indigenous organizations operating affordable housing in the Basin.
First Nations are also eligible for similar supports through the First Nations Housing Sustainability Initiative and should reach out to Tessa Bendig at 1.800.505.8998 (housing@ourtrust.org) to inquire about Trust support for their project ideas.
