The Community Wildfire Program is supporting communities to enhance their efforts at reducing the risk of wildfires occurring within or adjacent to communities in the Basin. To help make this happen, Columbia Basin Trust is working with municipalities, First Nations communities and regional districts in the Basin to provide funding and other support to help mitigate community wildfire risks, augmenting support offered by different levels of government, other organizations and funding programs.
This program supports communities to:
- implement innovative approaches for reducing interface wildfire risks through a request for expressions of interest (see Community Wildfire Innovation Application Guide here);
- access expert guidance from a Wildfire Advisor, who can help communities develop, seek funding for and implement interface wildfire risk mitigation projects.
If you are a representative of a municipality, First Nations community or regional district looking for support and guidance with developing, seeking funding for or implementing a wildfire risk mitigation project, contact email@example.com to be connected with a Wildfire Advisor.
If you’re a Basin resident looking for information about what you can do to reduce wildfire risks at your home, download the FireSmart Homeowner’s Manual which explains the steps you can take to make your house more resilient to approaching wildfire. And visit FireSmart BC’s website to learn more.
