The Trust, in partnership with College of the Rockies and Selkirk College, is hosting a series of in-person workshops that could help build the knowledge and capacity of your non-profit. These workshops are for Basin non-profits and their staff and volunteers.

Understanding the Non-Profit Board and Executive Director Relationship – Trail
What are the roles and responsibilities of both the Board and ED? What are the fiduciary responsibilities of the Board? How do the Board and ED work together as a high functioning team? These questions help the Board deal with the work at hand in providing the services they do.
Frank has over 25 years of HR experience, mostly in Health Care, both in the public and private sectors. Frank offers practical knowledge in all aspects of Human Resources and Administration. His style is to collaborate with a focus on strategic and operational priorities. Growing and investing in team capacity is one of Frank’s priorities. He most enjoys mentoring managers to become better leaders. In recent years Frank has provided HR Consulting services to small and medium sized organizations, from Strategic Planning, Board Development, and Conflict Resolution.

Digital Storytelling and Boosting Engagement for Non-profits – Creston
This workshop focuses on harnessing the power of digital storytelling and content creation to boost engagement and support for non-profit causes. Participants will learn how to craft compelling narratives, plan and manage a content calendar, and utilize visual content effectively. The session will also delve into the basics of social media and email marketing tailored for non-profits, emphasizing community building and personalized communication.

Courtney has worked in nonprofits for 15 years. She is well versed in nonprofit support and helps regional nonprofits and community organizations with grant writing, organizational development, communications, and financials. Courtney continues to do the work she loves because she is continually inspired by the people in the Elk Valley and Cranbrook region and the amazing history this area has with building community through volunteerism and social capital.

Financial Management for Non-Profits – Salmo
This workshop covers the foundations of financial skills for maintaining long-term health of non-profit organizations. Discussions include the basics of financial analysis, cash flow and budget management, goal setting, strategy, and reporting.
Thierry became a CPA in 2020 and has since gained experience working primarily with non-profit and public sector clients in Quebec and British Columbia. Based in Nelson, Thierry is now a partner at Arrowmaker, a small accounting firm providing personalized services to non-profit organizations and small businesses. Thierry also currently works as a marker for CPA Canada, for their Professional Education Program and the Common Final Examination.
Thierry enjoys bringing clarity to areas that others might see as chaotic. To him, there is nothing more satisfying than diving into a messy accounting puzzle and organizing it into a clear picture. In his spare time, Thierry enjoys hiking, running, skiing, and camping in the beautiful local mountains.
