Community Initiatives and Affected Areas Programs

The Community Initiatives and Affected Areas Programs (CIP/AAP) are intended to be flexible and incorporate community-based funding decisions. The programs support local projects that provide additional value to Basin communities, and that benefit the broad community and public good. Program funds are distributed annually to the Trust’s local government partners: the regional districts of East Kootenay, Central Kootenay and Kootenay Boundary, the City of Revelstoke, Town of Golden, Village of Valemount, and to our Indigenous partners: Ɂaq̓am, ʔakisq̓nuk, Yaqan nuɁkiy, Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqǂiʔit, and Kenpésq̓t.

All areas in the Basin receive Community Initiatives funding. The areas most affected by the construction of Columbia River Treaty dams also receive Affected Areas funding: these include the communities around the Arrow, Kinbasket, Duncan and Koocanusa reservoirs.

We have committed a total of $4.2 million per year to the programs. This is divided amongst local government and Indigenous partners as follows:

City of Revelstoke and CSRD Area B
Regional District of Central Kootenay
Regional District of East Kootenay
Regional District of Kootenay Boundary
Town of Golden
Village of Valemount
yaqan nuɁkiy
Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqǂiʔit

Decisions are community-based, through processes determined by the program partners.
