Location: Goat River Farms, Creston, BC
This field day will bring producers and organizations together to discuss grazing management and strategies for cows, fish and frogs to co-exist on agricultural land. Participants will tour Goat River Farms (Kootenay Natural Meats) to see management practices that this farm has implemented including a hard surfaced feeding area for livestock and efficient ways to fence riparian areas. Producers will have the opportunity to talk with other farmers and land managers about their priorities and challenges when ranching and farming in ecologically sensitive areas.
Resource people will present to discuss some new funding opportunities for Creston farms and existing supports such as the Environmental Farm Plan and Farmland Advantage. Producers will also be asked for their input on a new project being developed along riparian areas throughout the Creston flats.
Hosted by the Kootenay and Boundary Farm Advisors in Collaboration with Farmland Advantage. Supporting organizations that will be present: Environmental Farm Plan, Kootenay Conservation Program and the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area.
