Connecting the Basin
Basin residents have told us that high-speed internet is important to them. This is why one of our strategic priorities is to make high-speed internet connectivity available throughout the region.
Since 2011, the Trust has committed to working toward initiatives that help increase reliable, affordable, high-speed connectivity in the Basin with an emphasis on underserved rural areas. These initiatives have built over 1,185km of backbone fibre in the Basin with 42 POPs, further connecting over 18,400 homes and narrowing the ‘digital divide’ between large urban centres and our rural region.
Two of these initiatives were recently completed in the Slocan Valley and South Country regions. In total, 5,200 households in the Slocan Valley and 1,200 households in South Country may benefit from the fibre optic backbone put in place.
