People working in Revelstoke will soon have access to 24 affordable rental homes, with construction starting on a new apartment building in the community.
By delivering 24 new quality rental homes, more people who work in the community will have a home they can afford. The project is targeted toward individuals and couples with moderate and low incomes who are working in the resort and hospitality industries in the city.
“These affordable housing units will make a real difference for people in Revelstoke and are adding to hundreds of other units across the basin that are contributing to healthier and more resilient communities,” said Johnny Strilaeff, President and CEO of Columbia Basin Trust. “Congratulations go to the Revelstoke Community Housing Society and all the other project partners for your efforts in moving this project forward.”
The three-storey building will provide 24 one-bedroom units and will be operated by the Revelstoke Community Housing Society. Located at 297 Humbert St., the site is located near elementary and secondary schools, a grocery store and the Revelstoke central business district.
Under the Columbia Basin Investment in Affordable Housing agreement between the Province and Columbia Basin Trust, a grant of about $4.8 million is being provided for the project. The City of Revelstoke is leasing the land to the society at a nominal rate.
Construction is expected to be complete in spring 2022.
